FUJI XEROX TO REDUCE 30% OF FY2005 CO2 EMISSIONS DURING ITS OVERALL LIFECYCLE STAGE BY FY2020
發佈日期【 2009/02/16 】

TOKYO, February 16, 2009 – In its efforts to contribute to global warming mitigation, Fuji Xerox Co., Ltd. has set its greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction targets for FY2020 and launched company-wide efforts invoving both domestic and overseas affiliates.
The world must build low-carbon society in 10 or 20 years' time in order to achieve the global long-term target of at least halving GHG emissions by 2050. Fuji Xerox has defined numerical mitigation targets for the foreseeable scenario timeframe to FY2020, as well as focal issues for achieving the targets.
[Outlines of GHG mitigation targets for 2020]
a. By 2020, reduce CO2 emissions by 30 percent from the level in FY2005. Fuji Xerox is working on reducing GHG emissions through the entire lifecycle, aiming to reduce the annual CO2 emissions, which stood at approximately 1.7 million tons-CO2 in FY2005, to approximately 1.2 million tons-CO2 by FY2020. Main activities for achieving this target include:
(1) Develop and proliferate products that minimize environmental impact during end-user usage targeting a 80 percent reduction of per-unit power consumption from the level in FY2005
As more than 50 percent of environmental impact during the product lifecycle is attributable to end-user power usage, Fuji Xerox has been striving to develop energy-saving products since the 1990s, and has won the Energy Conservation Prize in the energy-saving machines and systems category for 10 consecutive years. Fuji Xerox continues to innovate its technologies and spread more energy-saving products to the broader society to contribute to the mitigation of CO2 emissions.
(2) Build a mechanism for low-carbon manufacturing, including the entire supply chain, targeting a 75 percent reduction of per-unit CO2 emissions during manufacturing from the level in FY2005
While continuing to seek enhancement and thorough implementation of energy conservation activities at business premises, Fuji Xerox also promotes productivity improvement, manufacturing innovation and the introduction of renewable energies to reduce CO2 emissions in manufacturing processes.

b. Introduce new ways of working to contribute to transforming social systems, and reduce CO2 emissions at customers by seven million tons per annum by FY2020
Merely reducing CO2 emissions has a small impact to society as a whole, and does not represent a major contribution to building low-carbon society. To fulfill Fuji Xerox’s role in providing solutions to customers’ issues through IT and documents, the company will expand out existing services and solution business as well as create / spread new ways and places of working to achieve, by 2020, emisssions reduction of seven million tons-CO2 per annum, which is equivalent to approximately four times Fuji Xerox’s lifecycle environmental impact in FY2005.
Specifically, Fuji Xerox will visualize the environmental impact generated at customers' offices and in their operations to develop and deliver solutions that integrally mitigate environmental impact through the conservation of energy, space and resources while providing values and benefits including productivity improvement.
Based on the company’s survey results showing that communication represents approximately 80 percent of work operations, Fuji Xerox innovates communication technologies to create new ways and places of working, and advocates them in society, in an effort to reduce CO2 emissions during communication.
Under the Ecology & Safety Vision defined in 1999, Fuji Xerox has been promoting various activities in its quest to join the ranks of the world's top companies in terms of its contribution to environmental conservations activities by customers and society in general.Fuji Xerox continues to proactively contribute to achieving sustainable low-carbon society through its business activities and the delivery of goods and services.
